Social Media Tips

Here are some tips as you join the #PAPeopleCount campaign.  The Pittsburgh Foundation is providing social media help to nonprofits.  Please contact Christopher Whitlatch at 412-394-2620 or [email protected] to find out what resources we may be able to provide you.

Facebook: Scheduled Posts

Schedule your posts to create frequency, save time and reach audiences at different times of the day.  To schedule a post in Facebook, click on publishing tools and select schedule posts.  You can set up your entire 2 week campaign with just a little work.

Facebook: Tag Your Elected Officials

It is important to let your legislators see your message on Facebook.  To do this please tag the appropriate elected official's page (@ElectedOfficialFacebookPage) in the post.  To find their page, look up your legislator.

Reach a Bigger Network

Engage your board members, clients, staff and volunteers in your campaign to reach more people.  Send an email that explains what you are doing and why it is important that they activate on your behalf.  Make it easy to them by sending them the messages (140 characters for Twitter) that you would like them to share via their social media accounts.  Ask them to invite their friends as well.  We can make the most impact by showing that registered voters support this campaign.

Twitter: Scheduled Posts

Schedule your posts to create frequency, save time and reach audiences at different times of the day.  To schedule a post in Twitter, it is easiest to use a management tool such as HootSuite.  Enter the post and schedule the time of day you would like to send it.  You can set up your entire 2 week campaign with just a little work.

Twitter: Tag Your Elected Officials

It is important to let your legislators see your message on Twitter.  To do this please tag the appropriate elected official in your post by using their handle (@ElectedOfficial) in the post.  Check this page for your official's Twitter handle.

Tweet Jukebox

Another option for scheduling posts and one that works well for this campaign is TweetJukebox.  The service is free and it randomizes your tweets so they go out on a regular basis throughout the campaign.  At the end of the campaign, you can turn off the jukebox and tweets will no longer send.
